Inspired by the construction and function of sails in the boating industry, I strove to create a light building based on the structural efficiency of tensile and compression members. Through physical experimentation I developed a tensegrity module which could multiply and expand linearly into space, . This system creates a structure that was not only light but inhabitable. The result is a boat manufacturing facility with large, open work spaces below and an inhabitable web of structure above. With a textile enclosure system, the translucency of the fabric provides well lit work spaces during the day. At night, the building itself becomes a sculpture and beacon of activity.
