Billboard Brewery is a new typology for a brewery/office building that allows it to thrive and grow within an urban context. In order to have this flexibility, the design is generated from a vertical steel frame that houses all of the infrastructure for the brewing process and the office program. Brewery and office “components” are then prefabricated off-site, shipped to the site along the Gowanus canal, and plugged into the vertical grid of infrastructure. This allows individual components to be replaced easily, and allows the entire building to be reconfigured to respond to various changes - related to process, economy, or technology - over time.
